start at the beginning, how did you become an artist and as you
became an artist, did you ever imagine it would be for games? |

I've
played games since I was 4 years old so I guess you can say I'm
part of the video game generation. I did not know I was going
to make a career out of it until I hit my last year in Highschool.
I tried college, but after only one semester I realized the current
education system wasn't quite beneficial enough to get me where
I wanted to go. So instead, I took some time off and worked on
my portfolio. Eventually, I landed a job in Terminal Reality Inc
as an Environmental Artist and now, 2 years later, I'm working
at Ritual Entertainment as a character artist. |

| You
have a great eye for details and form. Tell us about the process
you undertake to get the results that you do? How do you come
up with your ideas? Concepts, yes, no? |

|

Most definitely. I strongly believe in first having a good idea of 'how'
and 'what' you are going to build. Concepts help this initial process
immensely. Personally, I always think things through thoroughly (try saying
that 5 times over) before I start the actual model. Since I am a fairly
intuitive artist and most of my knowledge and understanding of form and
design comes from experience. I'm not perfect, but I think I've improved
a lot after knowing next to nothing about art. |

During the war, did you ever have any doubts on your design?
And were there any compromises or revisions?

There was 1 time during the war when I was ready to give up, and
that was when I saw mr kite's textured lowpoly head... considering
my own textures for General Corum were shaping up rather badly,
I got to this sort of "oh man, I don't think I can do this"
point. But, I just kept pushing ahead. |

get this entry done must have been no easy feat. Tell us about
your working habits? Basically, what's your secret to your apparent
success? |

|

Yes,
it was quite a feat. Like everyone, I went through the first stages
of "omg! This is going to be the most badass thing ever and
I'm going to put every hour of my time into it!" So when
I began to work on my entry, I approached my concept very seriously.
I knew this was going to be something I had to commit to for the
next month, so I had to be sure I would never get tired of it.
Basically, I really had to feel like I was working on the coolest
thing ever! To achieve this, scheduling my work helped immensely.
Usually, like everyone, I would leave a lot of my work for the
end. Most people, including myself, hate this. Therefore this
time, a week before the deadline, I had General Corum pretty much
bagged, tagged and finished. I crunched a bit during the middle,
but it made for a very confident and 'not rushed' ending. It was
very satisfying. |
